Permanis was incorporated on 3 October 1973 as a private limited company under the name of Investico Construction Sdn Bhd. On 7 February 1975, the company changed its name to Permanis Sdn Bhd with a paid up capital of RM40,000,000. Permanis is 100% owned by C I Holdings Berhad of which was listed on the main board of Bursa Malaysia on 18 February 1983.

The principal activity of Permanis is selling, bottling and distribution of beverages. Permanis was granted the exclusive rights by PepsiCo International to bottle, distribute, market and sell the "Pepsi" brand as well as other peripheral brands of soft drinks such as "Mirinda", "7 Up" and "Mountain Dew" in Malaysia.

On 4 December 2002, Permanis was also granted the exclusive right to bottle, market, sell and/or distribute the isotonic beverage "Gatorade" by Stokely-Van Camp, Inc.

On 21 April 2005, Permanis was also granted the exclusive right to bottle, market, sell and/or distribute the "ready to drink" Lipton Tea by Pepsi Lipton International for the Malaysian market.
