  • Large or public listed enterprises
  • Small, medium sized enterprises (manufacturing)
  • Small, medium sized enterprises (services)

The main objective of the brand evaluation programme is to offer companies affordable solutions – within a tried and tested assessment model – to discover the underlying asset or objective values in their brands.

Mark Of Quality For SME Goods (The Star, 03 March 2009)

Product packaging and branding are important for Small and Medium Enterprises if they want to compete globally, said Minister of International Trade and Industry (MITI), Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.
“Many of our companies, especially SMEs, produce goods of quality but regrettably they continue to be perceived as purveyors of goods that are unreliable, poorly designed and of poor quality,” he said at the launch of the National Mark of Malaysia’s Brands yesterday.
“These perceptions are often inaccurate and unjustified but nevertheless are real and very debilitating,” he added. Raja Muda of Perak, Raja Nazrin Shah launched the event organised by the Small and Medium Industries Development Corporation (SMIDEC). The national mark is a branding device to differentiate a product’s identity and quality. Companies are encouraged to apply for the mark by fulfilling a stringent criteria of quality operations, processes, products and services.
The Standard and Industrial Research Institute of Malaysia (SIRIM) will be responsible for auditing and monitoring of quality. Products that qualify for the national mark will be reviewed annually. Six companies have now completed a trial run and complied with the standards of the national mark.
Muhyiddin said the ministry would work with the Tourism Ministry to promote the national mark brands abroad. “Companies with the national mark logo will have access to the brand promotion grants administered by the ministry. “The grant provides eligible companies with a reimbursable grant of up to RM2mil per company,” he said, adding that to date 69 companies had benefited from the grant scheme
